How to Donate your Horse
At the Sporthorse Renewal Foundation, our mission is to provide a compassionate bridge for sporthorses in need of time, healing, or a new direction. Whether your horse is facing behavioral challenges, physical limitations, or your personal circumstances have made continued care difficult, we are here to help.
Donating your horse gives them a second chance—free from the risk of auctions, neglect, or slaughter.
We simply ask for full honesty regarding the horse’s history. This transparency will never disqualify a horse from being accepted (as long as space is available). Instead, it allows us to provide the safest, most effective care tailored to your horse’s physical, emotional, and behavioral needs—while also protecting our team and the other horses in our care.
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, donations to the Sporthorse Renewal Foundation may be tax-deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.
We understand that obtaining an appraisal can be difficult or expensive, so we’re here to help.
We can provide a certified appraisal through one of our qualified staff members or certified volunteers when appropriate and allowable under IRS regulations. This service is offered to support our donors and ensure the donation process is smooth and compliant.
We strongly encourage all donors to consult with a qualified tax advisor to ensure compliance with IRS rules under Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.
The Sporthorse Renewal Foundation will issue a formal acknowledgment letter with our EIN and 501(c)(3) confirmation, in accordance with IRS guidelines.
